IN LOVING MEMORY OF MR. JOHN BUSHNELL
Hello Friends,
SBE 85 Founder Jack Bushnell has passed.
I did have the opportunity to speak to Mr. Bushnell last year when I was locating passed members. I found the man to be well spoken and alert.
Mr. Bushnell spoke of the importance of SBE and demonstrated his interest by keeping his SBE membership current. John joined SBE on April 30th of 1965 and been a member ever since, an impressive 42 years.
He definitely left an enduring legacy.
John 'Jack' M. Bushnell died Saturday, February 16, 2008.
John was born March 15, 1924 in Tulsa, Okla. He was the son of Gladys Sartori and John M. Bushnell, Sr.
Later his family would move to Denver, Colorado, and then to Independence, Kansas where he attended grade school, high school, and Independence Jr. College. At the age of 18, John enlisted into the Signal Corps (attached to the Army Air Corps) and was later attached to Special Weapons. He served overseas and then attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas where he majored in Electrical Engineering. While in Manhattan, he helped build the college broadcast station known as Channel One. While in college he met the love of his life, Katherine Lewis. They were married in 1949 and were married a remarkable 59 years.
Later the couple would move to Tulsa where he became Chief Engineer of KVOO radio and later KVOO TV Channel Two. In 1970 they moved to Oklahoma City where he was Chief Engineer for WKY radio and Channel 4. He retired in 1986.
John is survived by his wife, Katherine and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he dearly loved, and they all loved their Uncle Jack.
John had a motto: "To be honest and loyal to your friends and family and to love them dearly".
Listening to classical music and photography were his hobbies. He was also the family photographer and historian.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Okla.
