Our History
The roots of Chapter 85 go back to a time when Society of Broadcast Engineers members in Oklahoma were organized through Chapter 56 in Tulsa. Engineers from the Tulsa and Oklahoma City areas met near the midpoint of the two cities, including meetings in Stroud.
As participation grew, members began discussing a separate Oklahoma City-area chapter. An organizational meeting was held on August 4, 1981, followed by a membership decision later that month. The creation of the new chapter was announced on September 30, 1981, with Chester Grubbs serving as the first Chapter Chair.
Today, the Society of Broadcast Engineers identifies Chapter 85 as Central Western Oklahoma. The chapter continues the same core mission: helping technical professionals stay connected and keep pace with an industry that changes constantly.
Our Purpose
SBE Chapter 85 is a local professional organization serving people who design, build, operate, maintain and support broadcast and multimedia technology. Our programs are intended to provide practical technical education, professional networking, certification support and a forum for exchanging ideas.
Our community includes radio and television engineers, broadcast IT and network professionals, RF specialists, audio and video engineers, technicians, consultants, manufacturers, vendors, students and others interested in the technical side of media.

Guests and people interested in the broadcast engineering profession are welcome to attend public chapter programs unless an event listing states otherwise.
Chapter Recognition
Chapter 85 has been recognized by SBE National over the years for chapter participation, membership growth and frequency-coordination work. That history reflects the involvement of generations of Oklahoma broadcast engineers who have contributed their time and expertise to the chapter.
